TV Show Accepting Submission for Music Variety Show

Live At 9:30, the TV music variety show launching nationwide on public television this spring, has announced it is accepting submissions for “180 At 9:30,” which will be a series of separate short films to air as part of each new episode. “180 At 9:30” will spotlight talented filmmakers from around the world. The films–which must be music-related or prominently feature music–must be no longer or shorter than three minutes. Therein lies the challenge! Live At 9:30 will consider any type of film: mini-documentaries, animation, biopic or fiction. The only limitation is imagination and 180 seconds. The submission process is detailed below.

Announced earlier this month, Live At 9:30 has drawn interest for what promises to be a new series unlike any other—an unpredictable, modern-day music variety show filmed at Washington, DC’s legendary 9:30 Club. Each cinematic, one-hour episode of Live At 9:30 will feature a collection of acts from different genres, interspersed with insightful and entertaining interviews, short films and comedic bits. In a word: variety—variety that people will be talking about.

The first three episodes of the 12-episode premiere season will feature performances by Garbage, The Arcs, Tove Lo, Ibeyi, El Vy, MisterWives, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Frank Turner, MS MR, Cold War Kids, Youth Lagoon and Jess Glynne. Wayne White, of Pee-wee’s Playhouse fame, will be Live At 9:30’s art director. Episodes will feature an unexpected mix of contributors and hosts, including Henry Rollins, NPR Music’s Bob Boilen, Hannibal Buress, Jill Kargman, Ralphie May and many more surprise guests.

“180 At 9:30” Submission Process
Filmmakers who want to submit should send email no later than April 30 to [email protected]. The email should include:

• A short treatment of your idea
• A rough proposed budget
• A resume or bio
• Links to previous work as well as other information as needed – e.g., info on principal cast, equipment you’d use.

The Live At 9:30 viewing committee will review all submissions and will fund the projects they find innovative, entertaining and compelling.
