Historic recording studio The Village hosted a special intimate screening, Q&A, and performance with the Immediate family last night. The Immediate Family is composed of legendary session guitarists Waddy Watchel and Danny ‘Kootch’ Kortchmar, bassist Leland Sklar, drummer Russ Kunkel who were the go to session players in the 70’s along with guitarist/vocalist Steve Postell (David Crosby). This music film documentary takes you into the lives of the Immediate Family members, how they became musicians, how they formed a band together, and interviews with the icons they performed with like James Taylor, Jackson Browne, Phil Collins, Warren Zevon, Linda Ronstadt, Carole King, Stevie Nicks, David Crosby, Don Henley and more. Since its release, the music film has received numerous accolades and 18 awards from various film festivals around the country including a prestigious 2023 Hollywood Music In Media Award (HMMA) in the category of Music Documentary-Special Program.
Following the film, legendary producer Jimmy Jam moderated a Q&A with the band and filmmaker Denny Tedesco who also made the world-renowned Wrecking Crew documentary. The band and crowd would move into the “Moroccan Room” down the hall from the screening room to perform several songs featured in the movie including Warren Zevon’s “Werewolves of London,”(written by Zevon, LeRoy Marinell and Waddy Wachtel), Don Henley’s “Dirty Laundry,” (written by Danny Kortchmar) and Jackson Browne’s “Somebody's Baby,”(written by Browne and Danny Kortchmar). In attendance were Browne, session bassist Bob Glaub, Elton John keyboardist Kim Bullard, songwriter Diane Warren, Guitar Center Music Foundation Chairman of the Board, David Helfant, keyboardist/producer CJ Vanston, former Dire Straits guitarist Hal Lindes, producer/engineers Niko Bolas, Dave Reitzas, Mike Clink, Ross Hogarth, Greg Penny, Steve Lindsey, Steve Genewick, legendary studio managers Paula Salvatore and Candace Stewart, artist Judith Owens, Get Together Foundation's Kevin Wachs, the Village’s Jeff Greenberg and Tina Morris and Jefferson Starship’s Jude Gold.
