The Flaming Lips delivered an unforgettable performance at Booth Amphitheater in Cary, NC, the second of two North Carolina shows following their Wilmington concert. Playing their iconic album "Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots" in its entirety during the first set, the band captivated the audience from the opening notes of "Fight Test" to the triumphant closer "Approaching Pavonis Mons by Balloon (Utopia Planitia)." The energy in the amphitheater was palpable, as fans sang along to every word of "Do You Realize??" and swayed to the ethereal "In the Morning of the Magicians."
The stage design was nothing short of spectacular, as to be expected with a Flaming Lips show, and featured some classic and new stage props including giant inflatable pink robots that inflated and deflated throughout the show, adding a whimsical tough to the already surreal experience. The signature Flaming Lips props were also in full force, with people dressed as giant inflatable eyeballs with inflatable red lips and swinging lights creating a mesmerizing visual display. The interplay of lights, CO2 cannons and LED visuals turned the concert into a fantastical journey, perfectly complementing the band’s eclectic sound.
The second set delighted the audience with a selection of classics, including “She Don’t Use Jelly” and “Race for the Prize” The mix of old favorites and the complete rendition of “Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots” showcased the band’s versatility and enduring appeal. The Flaming Lips proved once again why they are one of the most innovative acts in rock music today.
