Erik Himel, guitarist and creator of the Sunset Jam, commented, “We have the best players in LA and all the top touring guys come sit in. We've had some important recording industry figures like Alan Parsons drop by and perform. You never know who's going to be here. Musicians need a place to play in LA. They need somewhere to get showcased, and what's better than the best room in LA to bring them up on this stage?”
The Viper Room nightclub is located on the Sunset Strip and was opened in 1993 with partial owner, actor Johnny Depp. The club became known for being a hangout of Hollywood elite, has undergone several changes in ownership, and continues to host music of multiple genres, including metal, punk rock, and alternative rock. The “Sunset Jam” is approaching its 120th weekly event, and has been using TELEFUNKEN dynamic M80 and M81 microphones and direct boxes since the summer of 2017.
“It was night and day when we heard the Telefunken mics from out front,” says general manager and bass player Tommy Black. “They sound great on vocals, but they also sound great on guitars and snare drums, so they're multi-use.”
“Telefunken is amazing,” adds Erik Himel. “We thank them for supporting us on this weekly celebration. It really makes it an outstanding sonic showcase and we really appreciate it.”
