Presented annually by the NAMM Foundation at The NAMM Show, the TEC Awards recognizes the individuals, companies and technical innovations behind the sound of recordings, live performances, films, television, video games and multi-media.
The TEC Awards also honors musical artists whose work has exemplified the creative application of audio technology through the Les Paul Innovation Award, the audio masters who engineer the sound through the Hall of Fame Award, as well as historic introductions of the past through the TECnology Hall of Fame.
Founded in 2004 by George Petersen and presented since 2015 by the NAMM MUSEUM of Making Music, the TECnology Hall of Fame honors and recognizes audio products and innovations that have made a significant contribution to the advancement of audio technology.
The TEC Awards span 23 Technical Achievement and 8 Creative Achievement Categories.
This year, the eligibility period for the annual TEC Awards will shift from its traditional timeframe of September – August, to July 1, 2017 – June 30, 2018.
The call for entries period opened on March 28. Companies are encouraged to enter their products and projects in their respective categories. The call for entries period will close at 11:59 p.m. PT, May 28.
The revised eligibility period places The NAMM Show, the global launchpad of new pro audio and sound production products, in the center of the cycle, and will help contribute to the most innovative nominee pool possible.
Products that were nominated for last year’s TEC Awards, introduced in July or August 2017, are eligible for re-entry.
In June 2018, a curated group of industry experts from all facets of the pro audio and sound production industry comprise the Nominating Panel, that is tasked to narrow down the pool of product entries in each category to the final slate of nominees.
Final nominees are those products and projects that, in the opinion of the Nominating Panel, represent superior accomplishment in their respective fields.
Nominees for all TEC Awards categories will be announced at a special event at 2018 Summer NAMM, held June 28-30, 2018 in Nashville TN. Learn more and register here.
The voting period to determine the eventual winners will begin on Nov. 14 and continue through Dec. 31. Voting is available to a broad audience, including all professionals that make their primary living through the music, pro audio and sound production industries. Ballot access is promoted through major pro audio media groups and associations, as well as NAMM membership.
Winner names are kept in strict confidence until the big night. The 34th Annual NAMM TEC Awards will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at the Hilton Anaheim. Nominees and their colleagues and friends are invited to attend to enjoy a networking happy hour, dinner, great entertainment and the chance to be a TEC winner in 2019!
