Studio Instrument Rentals (SIR) is celebrating its 50th anniversary throughout 2017. The company was formed in 1967 when founders Ken Berry and Dolph Rempp rented out a bass guitar for a recording session in Hollywood. Today, the SIR truck can be seen delivering music and audio gear and services to major tours and festivals across the nation, as well as TV appearances, awards shows and recording facilities.
To date, thousands of artists have used SIR to rent musical instruments and gear (delivered to the concert venue) or to rehearse for tours in one of their 12 facilities across the U.S. SIR’s client list musicians from all facets of the industry, including Van Morrison, Dolly Parton, Jon Bon Jovi, Panic! At the Disco, Blake Shelton, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, TV host Jimmy Fallon and more.
SIR co-founder Berry notes, “After all these years, we’re proud to see so many former employees now enjoying careers in all facets of the entertainment business––audio engineers, artists, backline technicians, television staffers and record executives. Everywhere there are musical artists and music; there seems to be someone involved who has worked at or been associated with one of our locations. We’re also proud that many of today's recognized artists who became our customers back in the day have become so successful. It’s been a pleasure to know that we, in our small way, have played a part in their careers and their success.”
In honor of the 50th anniversary, Studio Instrument Rentals was recently honored with the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Milestone Award for 50 years of service in the music products industry. Presented annually by NAMM President and CEO Joe Lamond, the Milestone Award recognizes music businesses that have flourished through changing business environments to reach a noteworthy anniversary.
