Vinyl hounds rejoice! This Saturday, April 12, is Record Store Day, and that means a ton of special, limited releases across all genres and available at about 2,500 record stores around the globe. Launched in 2008, RSD initially involved the participation of 200 stores in the U.S. The growth since then has been massive.
Disquaire Day, which is the name given to Record Store Day in France, will see Paris honor Jim Morrison of The Doors, with the naming of a Parisian bridge in his honor. I
"As a writer, Morrison loved the American expat tradition (a la Hemingway) of going to the City of Light, where so many artists have found community – and with our singer's remains at the famous Pere Lachaise Cemetery in Paris’ 20th arrondissement, his creative spirit looms large. Having a bridge in Paris named after Jim is just so apropos!", said The Doors' John Densmore.
“Thank you, Paris, for honoring our brother, James Douglas Morrison, in such a meaningful way,” his siblings Andrew and Anne Morrison said in a statement. ”When Jim arrived in this city, he was searching for inspiration, freedom, and a deeper connection to his writing. In his short time here, he completed countless journals with thoughts and poems as he wandered through your magnificent streets, drawn to the energy and soul of Paris. Though his time was brief, his spirit found a home in Pere LaChaise, where he now rests among poets, artists, and countless others who have found peace within its historic grounds. We are deeply grateful that his memory continues to have a place in Paris. With gratitude and appreciation, we thank you.”
Geddy Lee of Rush is celebrating with RSD Canada at Toronto's Dine Alone Records, where he will be signing copies of his special RSD solo release The Lost Demos.
There's more too: "RSD Netherlands has worked with pressing plant The Record Industry to create and release that plant’s first-ever order of fully recycled colored vinyl," reads a statement. "A 7” single of “Efteling Park Symfonie”, a collaboration between The Record Industry, RSD Netherlands and Efteling Amusement Park, pressed on 140-gram recycled colored vinyl, housed in a gatefold sleeve printed on FSC-certified cardboard with vegetable-based bio-ink. It will be available at participating indie record stores in the Netherlands, as will a split single bringing RSD Netherlands Ambassador DI-RECT – one of the biggest bands from The Netherlands – and singer-actress Pommelien Thijs, the RSD Belgium Ambassador together on one 7”, so that both acts literally come together and strengthen each other and participating Dutch and Belgian record stores."
"Speaking of Ambassadors, RSD Korea is thrilled to announce P1Harmony as the first-ever Record Store Day Korea Ambassador (and American members of the P1ece are excited that P1Harmony has also been named Record Store Day’s K-Pop Artist of the Year!)," they continue. "RSD UK hails Newcastle’s Sam Fender, a long-time supporter of and regular performer in UK record shops as their 2025 Record Store Day UK Ambassador; RSD Japan turns to a turntablist known worldwide for crafting his sets with 7” records, the one-of-a-kind DJ Shimokita to wear the Record Store Day Japan Ambassador sash in 2025; and RSD Spain celebrates the 40-year career of saxophonist Dani Nel·lo, a leading figure in Spain’s rhythm & blues, rock & roll, swing and jazz scenes, with the Record Store Day Spain Ambassador title. Senor Ambassador has been supporting indie record stores as a solo artist and with his bands for more than a decade, as this celebratory Record Store Day video from the past shows!"
