Singer-songwriter Sabrina Song told us about her app love.
I thought long and hard about what I actually need most as a writer, producer and artist. While I love the gear and plug-ins and instruments I use, the piece of technology that is most essential to the creative process for me is the Voice Memos app on my phone. I'm someone who mostly comes up with lyric ideas when I'm on the go – on the subway, on a walk, on the plane--and I desperately need the Voice Memos app to capture and remember the exact way I want to phrase a melody or articulate a lyric, when I don't have any of my gear with me. One of the biggest crises that can occur for me is having my phone die during a burst of inspiration while I'm out, and not remembering the idea quite right when I get home to keep working on it.
I don't like to feel inhibited or burdened by the tools I'm using when I'm in the early stages of the writing process. Even in sessions, sometimes it's easiest to pull out your phone and record some voice memo notes about lyric or melody changes, just to capture an idea in its purest and newest form. I will die on this hill!
Sabrina Songs album You Could Stay in One Spot and I'd Love You the Same is out now.
