PRS Guitars Reintroduces the CE 22—A Limited Edition Return of a Classic

PRS Guitars has long been synonymous with craftsmanship, tone, and serious player cred. Founded in 1985 and headquartered in Stevensville, Maryland, the company has built a reputation for producing high-quality electric and acoustic instruments, boutique-style amplifiers, and effects pedals. Their gear has found its way into the hands of some of the most respected musicians in the world—including Carlos Santana, John Mayer, and Mark Tremonti—and their SE Series makes PRS quality more accessible for everyday players.

Now, PRS is reaching into its archives and bringing back a fan favorite: the CE 22, available for a limited time in an exclusive run of just 1,000 pieces worldwide.

Originally introduced in 1994, the CE 22 offered a new flavor of PRS tone by combining the company’s signature build quality with the snappiness of a bolt-on neck. The model hasn’t been seen on shelves since 2008, but now it’s returning with a few modern updates—and just enough of its vintage soul to make longtime fans take notice.

“This limited-edition, 22-fret model in our CE line offers classic PRS aesthetics and a voice that blends warmth with bolt-on articulation for vintage-inspired tone and modern versatility,” said Paul Miles, PRS Guitars Director of Manufacturing, in a statement.

The CE 22 Limited Edition features a mahogany body with a maple top, a bolt-on maple neck, and a 22-fret, 25” scale length. Under the hood, it’s powered by PRS’s 58/15 LT pickups, known for their nuanced, vintage tone. Players will also find a push/pull tone control, a three-way toggle switch, and PRS locking tuners with wing buttons—all details aimed at both tone purity and reliable performance.

While the more common CE 24 remains a mainstay in the PRS lineup, the CE 22 brings its own distinct character. A statement from the company notes that “these differences include the model of pickups, placement of pickups, and, of course, the number of frets,” all while retaining the tonewood blend and signature features that define the CE family.

Visually, the guitar comes dressed in a selection of striking finishes: Black Amber, Carroll Blue, Faded Blue Smokeburst, Faded Gray Black, and McCarty Sunburst—each one designed to complement the guitar’s vintage-meets-modern appeal.

The CE 22 Limited Edition is part of PRS’s ongoing 2025 rollout of new gear and special releases tied to the company’s 40th Anniversary. More launches are expected throughout the year, including other limited-edition guitars and gear.

Whether you’re a longtime CE fan or simply curious about what a bolt-on PRS can really do, this limited release is one worth keeping an eye on—before all 1,000 are gone.
