Protein TV is back. Hailed as "Europe's first online TV channel" when it launched in February 1998, it blazed a trail for other companies to follow, both in technology and programming.
2013 sees the rebirth of Protein TV at Hackney House Austin during SXSW, as a fully integrated online, mobile and smart TV service. Every month, Protein TV will showcase a highly curated programme of the very best video content from the worlds of Art, Design, Music, Film, Fashion, Food and Travel. As part of the launch, Protein TV will feature exclusives from Dezeen, Channel 4’s Random Acts and Resident Advisor, with new commissioned Protein Films and many more partners to be announced over the coming months.
"The online video landscape is a very different place than it was 14 years ago when we launched the original Protein TV platform. I was keen to challenge the concept of traditional linear TV programming in a non-traditional non-linear online world, and today my aim stays the same. Protein TV serves as a must-see playlist from our partners, covering profiles, short films, documentaries, animation, music videos, fashion films and everything in between... It’s a representation of our network in the most current and visually engaging way possible," said William Rowe, Protein, Founder & CEO.
The official (re)launch of Protein TV will be at SXSW as part of Hackney House Austin, a 3,000+ sq ft space showcasing 25 of the finest Shoreditch businesses, as well as being a welcome hangout, complete with free WIFI, coffee, meeting spaces and power chargers.
A Protein Forum discussing “The Future of TV” takes place on Saturday 9th March from 4pm-5pm, with Blake Whitman from Vimeo, Costas Syrmos from Nokia Films, Fernando Gutierrez De Jesus from ITV NEW and hosted by Protein’s Founder and CEO William Rowe.
There will also be a Protein TV stand specially designed by Not Tom for the event, where they will debut their forthcoming Kickstarter funded furniture project ‘Strung’.
The extensive, 4-day programme of events will provide an open opportunity for guests to meet Hackney’s top creative and digital companies, including:
