Philanthropic record label The Giving Groove has announce the signing of Philly punk icons the Dead Milkmen to its roster.
For nearly 35 years, Dead Milkmen have been skewering pop culture and confounding critics with their quirky brand of smart, satirical punk, and amassing a huge cult following with the hit singles “Bitchin’ Camaro” and “Punk Rock Girl.”
The band will release their new EP, Welcome to the End of the World, this fall on The Giving Groove. "You're either going to buy it or not,” says frontman Rodney Anonymous, adding an ominous warning: “If you don't buy it, don't blame us when you get eaten by wolves, because this EP will be the only thing standing between you and the wolves."
Following The Giving Groove’s “artist-friendly, socially conscious” model of donating one half of all profits to music charities, the Dead Milkmen will donate 50 percent of album proceeds to Girls Rock Philly, an organization dedicated to empowering girls and women from the greater Philadelphia region through music education and activities that foster self-respect, leadership skills, creativity, self-expression, critical thinking, and collaboration.
"We were excited about The Giving Groove’s ‘artist friendly, socially conscious’ concept and liked the idea of channeling part of our album profits to a local music organization,” says Dead Milkmen drummer Dean Sabatino, a.k.a. Dean Clean. “Girls Rock Philly has great programs for girls and women, such as summer camps, youth bands, and music-writing classes."
The Dead Milkmen join The Giving Groove’s growing family of artists, including Hoots & Hellmouth, OOLALA, and DECONTROL, who are committed to giving back to the music community.
"To have such an iconic Philly band as the Dead Milkmen choose to release a new EP with The Giving Groove and align themselves with our model is truly thrilling,” says Giving Groove co-founder Matt Teacher. “We grew up listening to the Milkmen, and to be able to work with them is a dream come true.”
