Paul McCartney will perform a benefit concert October 1 at the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts, topping off a month-long grand opening celebration for the new $203 million performing arts center located in the heart of downtown San Antonio. In his first San Antonio appearance since 1993, McCartney and his band will perform in the Tobin Center’s 1,750-seat H-E-B Performance Hall as a fundraising event for the new venue. Ticketing information is available by calling The Tobin Center’s development office at 210-223-8624.
“To have Paul McCartney, the single most iconic musician, singer and songwriter in the world, perform as part of our grand opening celebration is special in so many ways,” said J. Bruce Bugg Jr., Chairman of the Bexar County Performing Arts Center Foundation, which owns and operates The Tobin Center. “It is very rare for Paul McCartney to perform in a theater setting instead of a large arena or stadium. This will be a ‘once in a lifetime’ opportunity for people attending this concert to see and hear this incredible musician in the intimacy of The Tobin Center with its world-class acoustics.”
“It is a real coup for us to be able to bring Paul McCartney to San Antonio,” said Michael Fresher, President and CEO of The Tobin Center. “His appearance at The Tobin will complete essentially a full month of performers and events which will demonstrate the versatility of The Tobin Center and its three performance spaces. The diversity of performers which we are booking into the facility is fully in keeping with our theme of ‘something for everyone.’”
The Tobin Center for the Performing Arts opens September 4. In addition to the H-E-B Performance Hall, the theater complex features the 250-seat Carlos Alvarez Studio Theater and the 600-seat River Walk Plaza for outdoor performances and events. The Tobin Center, designed by LMN and Marmon Mok Architects, will serve as a dazzling architectural treasure for San Antonio’s downtown landscape. With its state-of-the-art acoustics and cutting edge design, The Tobin Center will instantly rank as one of the best places, anywhere, to see and hear a live performance.
