There’s a stylized wonder to Taylor Kelly’s R&B, which wobbles precariously on a tightrope with “old school” on one side and “contemporary” on the other. She certainly has influences from the golden age of soul, but the music doesn’t sound dated at all and that’s a tough, and impressive, balance to achieve. Her voice is expressive, smooth and quite beautiful, and the production is pristine.
“Sometimes” is wonderfully warm and familiar, despite the fact that Kelly has found her own lane and is forging ahead with her own sound. On “Take Me,” she soars, and shows promise of great things to come.
