Kx5 goes back to 2008 consisting of two of the biggest DJs in the world. None other than Joel Zimmerman (deadmau5) and Ryan Raddon (Kaskade). Deadmau5 went unmasked for this performance. KX5 made history bringing together 50,000 people at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum Saturday Night (12/10) having the biggest audience for a one-day EDM headlining event in North America. Also, taking place during the first week of December and with rain scheduled throughout the night, this didn’t stop a record breaking crowd from attending. The day began with the Coliseum’s famous torch lighting at 5:30 P.M followed by the first performance which came from Triple Xl. The Coliseum is just six months away from turning 100 and has hosted the Summer Olympics in 1932 and 1984, two Super Bowls, the USC Trojans football team since it opened, the L.A. Rams twice from 1946-1979 and 2016-2019 after returning from St. Louis and before SoFi opened and concerts from The Rolling Stones, Prince, U2, Pink Floyd, and Metallica.
Following Triple XL were hour-long performances from Anna Lunoe and John Summit. A little after 9 P.M.Kx5 took the stage with deadmau5 and Kaskade on their own risers that could move side to side and revolve 360 degrees. For a show like this there had to be a massive production. An hour into the show a generator blew up causing the show to be on hold for almost 30 minutes, although the Coliseum’s power was just fine as their own screens were still on. Curfew was extended to allow the performance to run its full two hours. Kx5 performed songs from each of their catalogs, Kx5, and there were four songs currently unknown, possibly from their upcoming album. The final song was “Escape” which included a surprise performance from Hayla. The performance had everything you could want from an EDM show of this size with flames, C02, and a fireworks finale. On top of that there 300 drones above the stage to form different shapes like the coliseum and following the show Kaskade and deadmau5’s logos.
The rain which had originally been scheduled to start at 4 P.M. didn’t begin until almost midnight once the event had already been over for 20 minutes.
