John Lennon Songwriting Contest's Session I is closing on June 15. Winners will be announced Sept. 1. The list of previous winners include Meghan Trainor, American Authors, Magic!, Gaby Moreno, Peter Cincotti and Tony Award winner Renée Elise Goldsberry.
The Contest is open to amateur and professional songwriters who submit entries in any one of 12 categories. The JLSC is open year-round and features two Sessions -- with 72 Finalists, 24 Grand Prize Winners, 12 Lennon Award Winners and 1 "Song of the Year." All entry fees from the contest help support the non-profit John Lennon Educational Tour Bus mobile recording studio.
Entries will be judged on originality, melody, composition, and lyrics (when applicable). Songs may be entered in any of the following categories: Rock, Country, Jazz, Pop, World, Rhythm & Blues, Hip Hop, Gospel/Inspirational, Latin, Electronic, Folk, and Children's. Instrumental compositions are encouraged.

This year, they're giving biggest prize package yet totaling over $300,000.00. Every year, there are a total of (72) Finalists, (24) Grand Prize Winners, (12) Lennon Award Winners and (1) OWC $20,000 "Song of the Year." Winners, based on their level of achievement, will receive studio equipment from OWC, Yamaha, Audio-Technica, Konig & Meyer, Propellerhead, Neutrik, Genelec, Mackie, D'Addario, Disc Makers, Focusrite, New Bay Media. The writer(s) of the OWC $20,000 "Song of the Year," the highest honor bestowed in the contest, will receive a $20,000 check in addition to their gear prizing.
