Jim Beam and Canadian Music Week Launch Talent Search

Jim Beam Canada has announced the inaugural Jim Beam Make History Talent Search in association with Canadian Music Week. The Jim Beam Make History Talent Search will support indie and emerging artists through a national showcase of undiscovered talent. The radio-driven competition will take place in Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto and Montreal with support from radio partners 102.7 The Peak, X92.9, Indie 88 and CHOM FM.

Commencing Jan. 16, independent and emerging artists (not signed to a major record label), are invited to submit an original song or video and bio to the radio stations' websites or indie.ca, where a music industry panel at Canadian Music Week will select up to five artists as regional finalists in each market (20 in total). The regional finalists will be invited to play a live showcase before a panel of judges from the radio station, print publications and other local celebrities. Each winner will receive an invite to play at Canadian Music Week Festival in Toronto.

The winning bands from each city will be entered into the national competition, where a music industry panel from Canadian Music Week will select one grand prize winner. The selected artist will win travel, accommodation and be invited to perform live during Canadian Music Week Festival at the 2017 Indies Awards at the Phoenix Concert Theatre, Toronto on April 19.

Petra Shim, Associate Brand Managerfor Jim Beam Canada, says, "Jim Beam is proud to sponsor Canadian Music Week and the INDIES. The spirit found in the music of Indie bands is inherent in Jim Beam: trusting your gut, taking risks and being true to yourself. The Jim Beam Make History Talent Search will enable new artists to make their own history."

Neill Dixon, President Canadian Music Week comments, "We are very pleased that Jim Beam has expanded their support of Indie artists with the Jim Beam Make History Talent Search. Along with our radio partners, The Peak, X92.9, Indie 88 and CHOM FM, we are able to shine a spotlight on some of Canada's most promising new artists across the country."

Georgia Straight, BeatRoute, Now Magazine and Cult Montreal are the print partners who will also supply a music writer to help judge each live event.

Jim Beam venue reps will support the live showcases with marketing and brand experience in each of the cities. The live music club venues will be announced prior to the Jim Beam Talent Search showcases to take place the weeks of Feb. 27 and March 6--where the Indie artists will have their opportunity to “make history.”
