Jei-Rynn Can't Do Without His LX Black Little Martin

L.A. alt-pop artist Jei-Rynn told us about his love for his LX Black Little Martin.

Jei-Rynn: I’m very attached to my LX Black Little Martin. It’s a small scale acoustic guitar that I got around the same time I started writing songs for my solo project. The guitar’s black body and dark fretboard is inspiring to me on a visual level, and its small scale and light weight make it easy to pick up and mess around with. Though it’s a smaller guitar, the tone is quite versatile and full. It can produce broad, full-sounding chords when strummed with a pick, and when finger-plucked it can kind of sound like a nylon string guitar.

So many of my songs have started on this guitar. It’s undoubtedly the guitar that I write and flesh out ideas the most with. When writing, I often like to experiment with different tunings, and this guitar has always impressed me with its ability to stay in pitch when changing tunings from week to week. Though I haven’t had the opportunity to use it live yet, I have played the guitar on a number of my performances that I post to TikTok.

I have also used this Martin on recordings. It’s the main acoustic guitar featured in my upcoming song “i’m an octopus” from the forthcoming viole(n)t dreams EP. This will be the first released recording to feature this guitar, despite it being in my arsenal for so long.

Jei-Rynn's EP viole(n)t dreams is out from November 15. He plays the Moroccan Lounge in L.A. on November 13.
