Singer-songwriter Ivan Cornejo, who is currently leading the new wave of alternative Musica Mexicana artists gaining global notoriety, has signed with Interscope.
The 19 year-old southern California native has had a multi platinum selling, rocket fueled career beginning with his 2021 debut album Alma Vacia, which the New York Times named one of the best albums of the year and reached number two on the Billboard Regional Mexican charts. Cornejo has also been prolific, releasing two collections of music in 2022, including Triste which featured the heartbreakingly sad corrido “Perro Abandonado,” and Dañado, a seven-song album which topped the Regional Mexican album charts and cracked Billboard’s Top 200 Albums chart, a career defining moment for the alt-mexican music crooner.
Ivan Cornejo commented: “I am really excited to begin this new chapter of my career. It’s been a long road even though my career is young and we have built a really strong foundation up until now. I am looking forward to working with John and Nir and the entire team at Interscope to continue to build and take my project to the next level.”
Cornejo dropped his highly anticipated new single, “Aquí Te Espero”, on July 28th and galvanized Chicago fans with a sold out show at Park West on August 5th and a sea of thousands of screaming fans at the iconic Lollapalooza Festival the following day. Both performances kicked off Cornejo’s Terapia Tour, which will make stops across the United States visiting major cities such as New York, Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, and for the first time, Ivan will make stops in Mexico during the month of October before wrapping up back in Chicago with another two nights on November 16th and 17th due to overwhelming demand.
