International Songwriters Day, April 9 was created to celebrate the work of songwriters around the world. It also will act to advocate on behalf of songwriters as well as help raise money for songwriter affiliated charities.

April 9, 1860 is the date of the earliest recording of a human voice ever recovered, singing the French folk tune, "Clare De La Lune" (By the Light of the Moon). It was recorded by Edouard-Leon Scott de Martinville and was deposited in 1861 with the Academie of Sciences.
