After releasing their debut Inertia EP, GRRL x Made of Oak now invite fans and fellow producers to further immerse themselves with CONFIGURATION. Released via Splice, and the platform’s Moment label, the downloadable sample pack expands the new language and sonic world that James Mapley Brittle (GRRL) and Sylvan Esso’s Nick Sanborn (Made of Oak) have cultivated across their inaugural, unexpected collaboration. From crunchy kicks to electrical zaps, analog imperfections and danceable drum patterns, CONFIGURATION is both a toolkit and gateway to experiencing the exhilarating energy of Inertia.
As two mainstays of Durham, NC’s eclectic dance community, who make very different types of music, James Mapley-Brittle and Nick Sanborn have crossed paths at many of the same parties over the years, but it was a conversation about their mutual love for peak-hour club music that ultimately brought them together to make Inertia. Amidst the woods of Betty’s studio in Chapel Hill, they created not only an EP of four songs thrilling enough for the height of their respective live sets, but a massive library of analog recordings – their favorite moments of which became polished in CONFIGURATION.
Inertia is out now via Psychic Hotline, and available to pre-order on limited vinyl. In addition to its title track,“an energetic cut which delivers trance-tinged techno” (Mixmag), Inertia features “Tempest,” “Interference” and “Aerial,” with the entire EP translated into mind-bending visual form through the artwork of Eric Timothy Carlson and Aaron Anderson (Bon Iver, Boys Noize, Leon Vynehall).
