Launched in 2020 and offered through the San Francisco Conservatory of Music in partnership with the San Francisco Symphony, the Emerging Black Composers project is a 10-year commitment to spotlight early-career Black American composers and their music.
Each year, applications open for Black composers to submit their work, and the winner receives a cash prize, a new work commissioned with a world premiere with the San Francisco Symphony, mentorship opportunities and career support.
