Duffing For Dollars charity golf tournament, now going strong for six years straight, is a music and touring industries tournament where key players from the worlds of music, management, touring, entertainment and finance come together for a great cause every January. Music industry vets Kevin Lyman (Vans Warped Tour, Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival) and John Reese (Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival, Funny or Die's Oddball Comedy and Curiosity Festival, SGE) gathered up their colleagues for a day of golf and a night of cocktails, awards and one-of-a-kind auctions. Hosted by Joe Sib of "Complete Control Radio" and "California Calling," this year's event raised over $41,000, totaling over $300,000 since it's re-launch in 2010 for the "Unite the United" and "MusiCares" charities.
The day started with 120 players dropping off their golf bags and receiving custom bag tags courtesy of Access Event Solutions. Golfers picked up their player gift bags containing items from Vans, Hurley and Fuse TV, including a custom Dri-Fit golf shirt courtesy of Journeys and Kings Road Merch and a sleeve of Titleist ProV1 balls courtesy of Fearless Records. Joe Sib kept the crowd entertained as well as informed of the day's activities while everyone enjoyed hand-crafted Bloody Mary's thanks to Chopin Vodka. The new feature [at the tournament] was the Helicopter Golf Ball Drop where a helicopter swooped in while everyone was enjoying lunch and dropped over 1,000 numbered golf balls onto a temporary green with the first ball going into the cup—that donor received $1,000. Throughout the day golfers enjoyed an array of beverages courtesy of Pabst Blue Ribbon, Saint Archer, ColdCock Whiskey and Rockstar Energy Drink. They also relaxed at Hole 6 with a massage from Hands That Rock while trying their best to get a hole-in-one and more importantly, $20,000.
In the evening, everyone bid on silent auction items including his and hers sunglasses from Barton-Perreira, a speaker system from Sonos and four tickets to the Radio Disney Awards. Airline tickets from Delta Airlines and a laptop/tablet computer from Toshiba highlighted the evening’s raffle drawing.
States Lyman, "Once again Duffing for Dollars was a great day for all and raised some nice funds for MusiCares. The only complaints I got were from people who missed it and wished they were there."
