Bush, Jerry Cantrell, Candlebox Light Up The Greek

The legendary rock band Bush made its way to the gorgeous Greek theater on Sept 15th. Surrounded amongst beautiful pine trees along with an old theatre look, the Greek is the perfect intimate venue for experiencing high quality entertainment and this was no exception.

Gavin Rossdale’s guitar work is impeccable, his vocals deliver the nice storylines of familiar songs like "The sound of winter," "Everything Zen," and "Comedown." Lead guitarist Chris Traynor was amazing through the entire set. Drummer Nik Hughes didn’t skip one beep to the drums. They start off the set with the first track with "Everything Zen" of their very first album Sixteen Stone. It's a spectacular stage setup, with Nik's drums on a 6 step high drum riser with speakers blasting towards to audience. Gavin and his band definitely offered their fans what they came to hear, and that’s the familiar grunge music they grew up listening to.

Song's like ‘Little things’ non-chorus aspects have a slight resemblance to Nirvanas "Teen Spirit." Rossdale's persistence as a performer is truly irresistible as a concertgoer. Before closing the night, Bush sent everyone back in time with ‘Glycerin’. The joy of a nostalgia sound, had folks get into their emotions, there were a few women crying and men holding their beers to the sky. This was Bush's signature song, it’s very different, very eerily set, and it was beautifully made. I wasn't ready to come down from my cloud of joy with this gem. It wasn’t my first time seeing Bush, and it wont be my last. And, every time I catch Bush onstage, I'm reminded of how fortunate I am to witness such a legendary band  who’s spam of music been around more than 30 years.

Jerry Cantrell lead guitarist/ singer for the band Alice In Chains wasted no time in playing ‘Them bones’, he really got the crowd fired up. It’s incredible when that iconic Alice In Chains harmony  hits the ear, it’s like a sound that takes you back to the good old days. Sounds like ‘We die young’, ‘Rain when I die’ and ‘No excuse’ made the crowd go into a huge frenzy. Cantrells flawless guitar work and charismatic stage presence made his performance, memorable and outstanding. One of the songs and memorable one to say the least was ‘Rooster’, written by Cantrell which was a tribute to his Vietnam veteran father. ‘Rooster’ was sang by the late Alice in Chains lead singer Layne Staley who died of a drug overdose in 2002. Nonetheless Cantrell and his band gave the crowd what they were looking for. Cantrells heavy metal tones stand out amongst his fellow band members. No doubt Cantrell is considered to be one of the greatest guitarist of his generation.

Candlebox lead singer Kevin Martin rushed onto the stage with so much enthusiasm playing hit songs such as ‘Simple lessons’ and ‘Understanding’ people from the crowd knew every single word to the songs. A little bit of history regarding Candlebox, They formed in 1990 and helped lay the groundwork for the grunge genre along side bands like Peal Jam and Soundgarden. Kevin Martin powerful voice and the bands and energetic presence had the crowd jumping up to their feet. In addition, Martin interacting with the audience was definitely a sight to see. At one point, he tossed his drumsticks to the crowd, and which many people jumped on top of each other, trying to grab them. Candlebox performance built a lot of momentum that set the stage perfectly, for the upcoming headliners before Jerry Cantrell and Bush graced the stage.
