The Bonnaroo era began in 2002 and was almost immediately named one of the "50 Moments That Changed The History of Rock 'n' Roll" by Rolling Stone. Each year since has seen the annual event consistently expanding the parameters of what a music festival can offer in the 21st century. Being a major all hours music festival, Bonnaroo presents fans with a number of entertainment options over the course of four days, most notably, its comedy tent, whose lineup has featured groundbreaking comedians, including Aziz Ansari, Amy Schumer, Louis CK, Zach Galifinakis, Chris Rock and more. The 2016 Bonnaroo Comedy Theatre lineup will be revealed this spring. Additionally, Bonnaroo's 24-hour cinema tent offers fans an opportunity to catch an A-list array of one-of-a-kind happenings, spanning director spotlights, interactive screenings, live film scoring and high energy Q&A sessions with special guest artists and actors.
Consistently searching for ways to improve the event each year, organizers have recently announced significant upgrades to the festival site, which will now feature its own water line allowing for more than 400 toilets and hundreds of showers, as well as a large number of additional water filling stations.
Equally important since the festival's inception has been uncovering new ways to give back to the community. As a result, the Bonnaroo Works Fund (BWF) charity initiative was established, supporting a number of regional and national organizations devoted to improving arts, education and environmental sustainability in communities across the country. In 2015, BWF donated more than $300,000 to upward of 50 organizations and has donated more than $7 million to over 100 organizations in total.
Bonnaroo is a global event, with tickets purchased in all 50 U.S. states and over 37 countries around the world, and has brought together over a million fans, more than 1,600 artists and 150 comedians in its 15-year history.
