Lisa Simpson of post riot grrrl trio Blood Lemon told us about her love for her Boss DD-6.
Lisa Simpson: Before “Perfect, Too” was recorded and released, we had the chance to play it live during some local shows and some short periods out on the road. People would come up to the merch table after we played to ask something along the lines of “how did you do that thing?” They are always referring to the effect during the second half of the song, when there is this simple and expansive guitar melody. I always knew what they were referring to, though it’s nothing flashy or difficult, it is my favorite pedal at work: the DD-6 from Boss. I have used this pedal since I started playing electric guitar and starting building out my pedal board.
For me this digital delay pedal is always set to the reverse feature. While I’m sure there are other options out there for this same effect, I love the familiarity I have with this pedal. I love the trippy layers that can happen, and I even love the tangy dissonance that can occur when you play a wrong note and then it just has to decay out in the reversed delay. It’s like having a color or spice that just expands the palette when used judiciously. Wicked fun for melodic solos and to expand upon rhythmic ideas. It’s a pedal that I can’t imagine playing without.
Blood Lemon's "Perfect Too" is out now.
