Audoo—the music technology company licensing royalties—has announced the hire of Matthew Fackrell and Eric Nguyen into the newly-created roles of Senior Vice President & General Manager, Asia Pacific, and North America, respectively. The moves form part of its global business expansion, adding senior industry expertise in these key territories to implement Audoo's adoption and roll-out of its technology.
Based in Sydney and Toronto respectively, they report to Audoo Founder and CEO Ryan Edwards who is based at the company’s headquarters in London, UK. The executives bolster a team, and board, of senior experts from BMG, BMI, Bowers and Wilkins, Shazam, Spotify, and more who have joined Audoo since its formation in 2018.
Following 20+ years at APRA AMCOS in senior roles across operations, business transformation, music licensing, corporate services and international relations, Fackrell has extensive multidisciplinary expertise and proven success in this space. Utilizing his experience in developing the digital music business in the APAC region and leveraging his global network contacts across the music and technology industries, Fackrell is tasked with expansion into this new market for the company and continuing to improve the landscape of royalty payments for songwriters and artists in music.
Nguyen brings to Audoo a decade of experience in mergers and acquisitions (M&A), corporate development and strategy across music, rights, media and entertainment. He previously worked at SOCAN on deals with MediaNet, Audiam and SODRAC, plus the launch, funding and adoption of its data and technology services arm Dataclef. He joins from Richter Consulting, where he worked on growth strategy and M&A advisory.
Matthew Fackrell, Senior Vice President & General Manager, Asia Pacific, says: “For more than twenty years, the issue of getting songwriters recognised and remunerated when their music is played has been something close to my heart, and working with Audoo is a natural extension to that. Audoo’s innovative technology solution serves a genuine need, and solves a real market problem. Installing an Audio Meter is just a matter of plug/play/set and forget - making best practice in general licensing reporting easy for individual venues, performing right organizations (PROs) and collective management organizations (CMOs). It’s great to have joined a company with a great product, amazing story and fantastic people.”
Audoo is actively providing solutions to the challenges faced in general licensing royalty data collection and payment distribution with its state-of-the-art Audoo Audio Meter and unique insights platform. Its dedicated hardware, software and algorithm power the commitment to improving accuracy, transparency and reporting in quasi real-time without burden for licensees, PROs and CMOs, to the ultimate benefit of music creators.
Its small, discreet plug-in hardware cuts through foreground noise, takes a digital, GDPR-compliant, fingerprint of the music being played, matches the track data, and reports to PRO and CMO partners - ultimately aiding the compensation of artists and rightsholders with a much greater level of accuracy.
Audoo raised £5.2million in its 2020 Series A funding round and £7.2million in its pre-series B funding round in 2021. Its financial backers include MPL Ventures, Tileyard London, Steve Sidwell, and Björn Ulvaeus (ABBA/CISAC) who said: “Audoo is a solution I believe will change the music industry forever and that’s why I have put my money where my mouth is.”
