School of Song, the groundbreaking online platform offering songwriting and music-centric workshops with acclaimed musicians such as Big Thief’s Adrianne Lenker and Fleet Foxes’ Robin Pecknold, has announced its next online workshop.
Comprised of lectures taught by Phil Elverum (Mount Eerie, The Microphones), Taja Cheek (L’Rain) Miya Folick, and Scott McMicken (Dr. Dog), “The Art of the Release” will be presented online via Zoom across four consecutive Sundays (June 2, 9, 16 and 23), with two lecture sessions on each class day at 11 AM and 6 PM PT to accommodate different time zones. Details below.
“The Art of the Release” will explore the philosophies, practices, and strategies that contribute to an artistically meaningful, effective, and sustainable approach to releasing music. The only prerequisite is for participants to have written at least one song they’d like to release. Specific topics include developing a narrative, the art of self-promotion, assembling the right support team, and building healthy work practices.
Each week, one of the teachers will give a lecture on subjects specific to the process of releasing music, and each class will assign homework related to these topics. In addition, there will be weekly group discussion sessions composed of peer feedback, an additional session with music industry professional Mike Caridi, Co-Founder of Double Double Whammy, and the opportunity to connect with other students from around the world. This level of accountability is a key component to School of Song’s offerings.
