Big Deal Music and Mega House Music's new podcast series And the Writer Is... explores the creative process, inspirations and pitfalls of songwriters. Each week, Multiplatinum songwriter Ross Golan (Selena Gomez, Keith Urban, Flo Rida) sits down with the emerging writers in the music business to discuss personal experiences and behind-the-scenes anecdotes. Since launching in late January, the podcast has received over 42,7000 downloads, and reached No. 30 on Apple Music's Top Music podcast chart.
Out now, Episode 6 focuses on Jason Evigan, the Grammy-nominated co-writer behind Jason DeRulo's "Talk Dirty," Nick Jonas' "Chains" and David Guetta's "Lovers In The Sun." Topics include the rise and fall of his Top 40-charting punk band After Midnight Project, spirituality, the power of handclaps and the "Jason Evigan-isms" that other writers now reference in sessions.
Episode 5 features a wide-ranging conversation with Justin Tranter, the Semi Precious Weapons frontman who helped pen Justin Bieber's song "Sorry." "He’s probably the hottest writer in the music business,” says Golan in his intro. "We did this interview less than two months ago, and since then he’s released the Imagine Dragons single ‘Believer,' Julia Michaels’ debut single ‘Issues,' Maroon 5’s single ‘Cold’ and Linkin Park’s single ‘Heavy.'” Tranter, who recently joined GLAAD's National Board of Directors, discusses misogyny and homophobia in the music business, actors vs. musicians, commercial radio's downward spiral and collecting royalties in the age of Trump.
Guests for the first season include Evan Bogart, Benny Blanco, J. Kash and Bonnie McKee. The show is produced by Grammy-nominated songwriter/producer Joe London (Pitbull, Thomas Rhett, Fifth Harmony).
