Looking to shed any creative restraints, Tonight Alive’s third studio release Limitless sounds different from their previous efforts. Dripping with ‘90s influence—“Waves” sounds like a Jagged Little Pill b-side—Limitless leaves pop-rock behind and heads for full-blown alternative. Lead singer Jenna McDougall’s performances showcase her tremendous growth in vocal abilities, and there is a musical cohesiveness that was sorely missing from the band’s first two efforts. Limitless does fall a little flat by the end, but the new sound is certainly a step in the right direction.
