Producer Ronson showcases ferocious juxtapositions, from the antiseptic Steely Dan vibe of “Summer Breaking,” through the nasty funk of “Feel Alright” featuring Mystikal, to the braggadocio of Bruno Mars on the hit single “Uptown Funk.” With lyrical contributions by novelist Michael Chabon, and guests such as Tame Impala’s vocalist Kevin Parker and Trombone Shorty, a producer-driven collection of songs, in lesser hands, might have seemed a mishmash of disparate outtakes. Given Ronson’s sheer genius, the result is a feisty tapestry of musical ideas—all equally brilliant. – Dan Kimpel
