Unlike its predecessor (Every Open Eye), the second studio album by Chvrches focuses more on Lauren Mayberry as the primary vocalist and less on vocal contributions from Martin Doherty. This creative adjustment sets a distinctive mood and pace for their listeners to focus on throughout the entire album. Its most sentimental composition is a New-Wave ballad called “Really Gone,” which serves as the perfect complement to the album’s final track, an introspective synth-pop song with an apologetic undercurrent, called “Wonderland.” Love is Dead illustrates the maturation process and emotional fluctuation of Mayberry’s love life.
