AIMP Luncheon Musicology and Copyright Claims

AIMP Luncheon: How Musicology Shapes Copyright Infringement Claims

AIMP L.A. Chapter will hold a luncheon panel co-presented with CSUSA L.A. on Thursday, Sept. 15, at Lawry’s: “BEGGED, BORROWED, OR STOLEN: How Musicology Shapes Copyright Infringement Claims.”

Whether via a sample, interpolation or an “homage,” interesting infringement cases often stem from how similar a musicologist determines one composition and/or sound recording is to another. The panel will cover a basic overview of musicological analysis and how, both in general and specific ways, such analysis can determine the path and outcome of possible infringement claims.

Panelists include musicologist Judith Finell, writer/producer Gregory Hutchison and Madeleine Smith/UMPG. The panel will be moderated by attorney Jesse Morris.

$57 guest price includes parking.
