As a preview to his upcoming full-length album The Carnival Vol. III, J’ouvert proves to be a decent EP that conveys the state of mind that Wyclef Jean is in, while touching on socio-economic events happening today. Whereas songs like “Holding on the Edge,” “Hendrix,” “The Ring” and “Life Matters” make the record worth listening to, “Rear View,” “Party Started” and the Young Thug-assisted “I Swear” simply bores the fan. J’ouvert is a mixed bag that could have been better if Jean had omitted certain tracks to really make this a tight, concise EP.
