The Stanley Clarke Band and five of Musicians Institute's most talented students will perform a free show this Sunday, Nov. 23rd at 8 pm at the MI Concert Hall in Hollywood for the prestigious annual Stanley Clarke Scholarship Finals Concert. A panel of high-profile music industry judges, including Doug Webb, Sunnie Paxson and Kennard Ramsey as well as members of the Stanley Clarke Band will select two grand prize-winning students based on musical talent, performing ability, stage presence and charisma. Both winners will receive a scholarship package of $9,000 each from The Stanley Clarke Scholarship Foundation and Musicians Institute, while three runners-up will receive $2,000 each in cash and tuition discounts.
"I am a big believer in higher education for young musicians," said Stanley Clarke, the legendary jazz bassist and composer, whose foundation has awarded financial assistance to promising MI students annually for over a decade. "There are many benefits for a musician continuing his or her education after high school. Music education, along with understanding music technology and the opportunity to meet and collaborate with fellow musicians from all walks of life, will put you in a better position to enter the fast-moving and ever-changing music world. Musicians Institute will provide you with a very professional environment that will let you create that musical foundation you've always wanted!"
Five student finalists made the cut from a pool of 60 submissions. They will each perform two songs at the concert, and the panel of celebrity judges will choose two winners.
Congratulations go out to the five Stanley Clarke Scholarship finalists:
- Mateus Asato: Guitar
- Jihye Byun: Keyboards
- Aliyar Kinik: Drums
- Andrea Silva Orozco: Vocal
- Bianca Richardson: Drums
The Stanley Clarke Band features Clarke on basses, Ruslan Sirota on keyboards, Ronald Bruner Jr. on drums and Paul Jackson Jr. on guitar, among others. The "liberator of electric and acoustic basses," virtuoso Stanley Clarke has done it all in his 40-plus year music career. With more than 40 albums and 60 film scores to his credit, Clarke has won multiple Grammys, Emmys, gold and platinum records, as well as the first-ever Musicians Institute honorary Doctor of Music degree in 2009. Now he enjoys giving back to the next generation of musicians as much as he enjoys living-legend status.
The concert is free and open to the general public. The event takes place Sunday, Nov. 23 from 8:00-9:30 pm at the Musicians Institute Concert Hall, 1655 N. McCadden Place, Hollywood, California.
