One of Music Connection's Top 25 New Music Critique artists of 2013, the KONGOS recently signed to Epic Records. The label has released the band's first single, which is already climbing the charts. Based now in Arizona, the four brothers (by way of London and South Africa) are buzzing and ready to conquer the U.S. with their single “Come With Me Now,” which grabbed the #1 most-added slot on the Alternative Rock charts. It is already receiving Top-10 airplay at many stations and quickly spreading throughout the country, heralding a meteoric rise for KONGOS, whose “classic rock elements, African rhythms and Balkan beats” combine for a sound that’s alternative and memorable. Additionally, “Come With Me Now” has been used in promos for the NFL, NBA, ESPN and in the trailer for the Leos Carax 2012 art house film Holy Motors.
Lunatic, out now, is the 12-song Epic debut for the siblings, born to popular ’70s South African/British singer-songwriter John Kongos. KONGOS recently hit huge on South African airwaves thanks to a slew of radio hits off Lunatic and extensive touring across the country. They’ve headlined some of South Africa’s biggest festivals and have played to crowds reaching 65,000. The brothers are multi-instrumentalists, with Dylan and Jesse handling vocals live and playing bass and drums respectively onstage. Eldest brother Johnny plays accordion and piano, while Danny is on slide and regular guitar .
KONGOS, who have toured overseas with Linkin Park, Dispatch and AWOLNATION, will hit the road with the Airborne Toxic Event for a U.S. tour starting Feb. 5th in St. Petersburg, FL. They are also confirmed to join the Foo Fighters, Outkast, Jack Johnson and other luminaries at the Firefly Festival on June 21st in Dover, DE with more tour dates being added soon.
