Red River Entertainment has launched its Nashville division. It was announced by music industry veteran Chuck Rhodes, who will head up Nashville operations for the new label. The first releases scheduled for the Nashville division are Michael WSM "Live From The Archives," Martin Murphey’s Red River Drifter, and Dos Divas from Grits & Glamour, a CD featuring Country Music legends Pam Tillis and Lorrie Morgan. The new label will be distributed by RED - A Division of Sony Music Entertainment.
"It's fantastic to be reunited with co-founder Bob Frank and to be working with the Red River Entertainment team in New York and Sony RED," said Rhodes, who worked with Frank at Koch Entertainment. "I am overwhelmed by the legendary artists and projects that have chosen to grace our roster here in Nashville and look forward to a long and prosperous relationship with them."
For the first time in its illustrious 87-year history, 650 AM WSM is releasing a compilation volume of live, in-station performances by world-renowned artists and writers. This first 16-track release, titled Live From the Archives of 650 AM WSM - Volume One, will be available on cd, digitally, and as a limited vinyl release. This first volume features a heartfelt introduction from Country Music Hall of Famer Vince Gill and rolls into live, one of a kind performances from some of the biggest songwriters and artists of our time. Release date is June 25, 2013.
Murphey's Red River Drifter was recently announced for a July 9, 2013 release. The album marks a return of sorts for the genre-busting artist. Drawing from a deep well of influences that includes classical to country, blues to bluegrass and folk to jazz, Red River Drifter follows Murphey's most recent acclaimed "Buckaroo" series (including his Grammy nomination Buckaroo Blue Grass). Over the past 40 years, Murphey has left an indelible mark on the American Music Landscape with huge hits "Wildfire," "Carolina In The Pines," "What's Forever For," "Long Line of Love" and "Geronimo's Cadillac" among others.
The unique collaboration between Tillis and Morgan, who bill themselves as Grits & Glamour, showcases two of the most talented women in Country Music. Their Dos Divas cd includes a combination of 14 solos and duets, ranging from the fun debut single "I Know What You Did" to the powerful "I Am Woman." "I Know What You Did," the most uptempo fun you can have with two country legends in under three minutes, shipped to Country radio last week and is already Play MPE's #1 download and #1 stream. The album will hit stores July 23, 2013.
"We at Sony/RED Nashville are very proud to welcome Red River/764 Records into our family," said Dewayne Brown, RED's Southeast Regional Dir. of Artist & Label Development. "The Country Music community continues to excel based on great music, amazing talent, and hard work. With this in mind, Bob Frank and Chuck Rhodes have always set their bar higher and each time exceeding those lofty goals. We are so blessed and excited that they have chosen us as their partner in continued growth and success."
Negotiations are under way for several projects, which will be announced in the coming weeks.
