Chicago bass artist KTRL got his start after going to Spring Awakening in 2013.
"It was my first festival and in my home city of Chicago," he says. "I was watching all the artists and knew I wanted to be up there. 2014, I picked up Ableton and started making my own music, and the first song I put out was in 2015 called ‘Switch,’ which is probably floating on the Internet somewhere. Probably got serious in 2016 just knowing I can keep getting better."
KTRL describes his sound as, "Bass driven electronic music with inspiration from darker palettes. ie. dub, techno, U.K. bass, dubstep."
His latest release is "Jinzo."
"'Jinzo' is the intro to the rest of this EP," he says. "Heavily inspired by ghouls & monsters. I’m an avid YugiOh fan which is where this character Jinzo was inspired from. Cyber shocker android that takes control of the listener in hopes to regain its soul back. Sounded pretty badass to me! I felt like naming the EP after this single was a perfect set up for the rest of the songs that come after.
As for gear: "Right now I’m rockin' PC, Ableton 11 for the DAW, a bunch of Serum, Vital, Trash, & stock ableton for the VSTs. Headphones I have Audio Technica M50x which I am loving. Decks I’m rocking anything from CDJ2000 NXS or above at the shows with a DJM mixer. Less is more!"
Looking ahead, KTRL has plenty planned for 2025.
"We’re currently planning some shows & hoping to be on some festivals this year," he says. "Excited to release a ton of music again & keep this thing going. You’ll just have to keep an eye out! My next show is on 2.7 @ Ramova Theater in Chicago with Spicy Bois, and my brother Cozy Kev."
