Sum 41 Plays Los Angeles for Last Time

Sum 41 played their final L.A. show of their farewell tour October 3rd which came just two days before their final U.S. show in Las Vegas, NV. With Sum 41 were the Interrupters and Many Eyes. The group formed in Ontario, Canada in 1996 and in 1997 the lineup would include Deryck Whibley (Guitar/Lead Vocals), Dave Baksh (Lead Guitar), and Steve Jocz (Drums).

The following year bassist Jason McCaslin joined. This would be the lineup until Baksh left in 2006. Starting in 2001 this lineup released three groundbreaking albums with that lineup All Killer No Filter, Does This Look Infected?, and Chuck. Tom Thacker would become Baksh’s replacement and would remain a member after his return. Jocz left in 2015 and Frank Zummo became the drummer. The current lineup has released three albums 13 Voices, Order in Decline, and their final album released this year Heaven :x: Hell.

The setlist of 26 songs included all the hits “The Hell Song,” “Over My Head (Better Off Dead), “Underclass Hero,” “Fat Lip,” the last song before the encore “Still Waiting.” Whibley Performed “Crash” solo piano and told the story of writing the song back when he and Avril Lavigne were still together and witnessing the aftermath of a fatal car crash of someone the same age right where they lived.

The last song of the first encore was “In Too Deep.” Sum 41 came back for a second encore of NOFX’s “Linoleum,” and it was their final three shows as well that weekend in San Pedro, CA. However, Sum 41 is not done touring just yet. Sum 41 will continue the tour starting in the Netherlands October 21st and will continue through Europe and the U.K. followed by Australia and then will finish in Canada with the final show taking place January 30th in Ontario where the group was founded. Sum 41 has been one of the most important Pop-punk groups since their debut album 24 years ago and will continue to have a lasting impact on the genre.
