Noel Billups runs sound at 1720 in L.A., and he told us all about it...
How long have you been running sound? How did you get into it?
I've been running sound for over nine and a half years. I took a break from college and started interning at a new music venue my friend ran and the rest is history.
How did you get hooked up with 1720?
I moved to L.A. in October 2022 from Denver, CO and just started sending my resume out to a bunch of venues and they gave me a chance.
Any particular highlights? Which bands have been the best to work with?
One of my favorite highlights at 1720 was working the PC Music 10 year celebration show. I'm a big fan of PC Music and A. G. Cook so that was a fun one. A lot of bands that come through are cool to work with. We get a lot of touring metal shows both from the U.S. and internationally and they are usually all great to work with.
How would you describe the acoustics/layout at 1720?
1720 is a 1000 capacity venue that is a concrete and metal warehouse so it can be challenging to mix in there with all the reflections. Once it's full of bodies it can sound pretty good in there though.
What gear do you use?
The front of house console is an Avid SC48 and the PA is all L-acoustics. K2s for the mains and SB218s for the subs.
