Her Leather Jacket are mixing the flawless songwriting and full-package artistry that comes out of Nashville with the spirit of a most-sophisticated Blink-era pop-punk. “I mess around and you just wait up for me,” opens the rocking single, “Cloud 9,” (shoutout to drummer Wes Snyder). “Cut Me Up” is on the softer side, and the outlaw country-tinged vocals from Manny Blu are cutting.
Album closer “Nirvana & Cigarettes” further taps into nostalgia, reminding that “No one likes you when you’re 22.” That age just keeps getting younger. In this state where country-crossovers are in, HLJ are right on the money. Expect a collab with Post Malone any day now.
