It feels like there was a time when this variety of polished indie-soul-ish music was all over the charts. Piet Shaw and the Soulsunshine may have missed that particular musical moment, although if he hangs tight for a moment the spotlight is sure to swing back in that direction.
There’s certainly plenty to admire on a song like “Someone to Save Me,” from the restrained yet emotional vocals to the solid production and the impressive musicianship. The songs are expertly constructed and, even if they don’t stay in your head for too long, they’re enjoyable.
