Iconic West coast rapper, Mack 10, is back on the scene, and he’s bringing some A-Listers along with him; when it comes to West coast rap/hip-hop music. In June, Mack 10 and some of his closest rap Friends, stopped by the Saban Theatre in Beverly Hills, CA during their 10 city tour, which is known as, The Cali Classic Tour.
Mack, who is notably recognized also as an influential promoter, promoted Smokey Robinson to Stephanie Mils to Lil Wayne and Cardi B; just to name a few. Though he did not, nor does not headline this tour, he did have 2nd II None, Spice 1, Mitchy Slick, Jayo Felony, Dj Quik, Suga Free, Tha Dogg Pound, and Bone Thugs-N-Harmony blessed the stage with some of their classic hit records.
Every artist gave us nothing but classic hits ranging from Mitchy Slick’s “Triggeration Station” to Jayo Felony’s “Whatchu Gonna Do?” to Suga Free’s “Why U Bullshitting?” to Mack 10’s “Hate In Yo Eyes.” The entire stage was lit, while crowd goers were out of their seats, singing, dancing, having a good time.
This tour also serves as a catalyst signifying the return of Mack as a solo artist. He’s been commercially quiet for approximately 20 years now, and he prefaced his tour with a new single called “King of Chevys.” “King of Chevys” portrays the hallmark images that signature Mack’s style. His vigorous, yet laid back flow, rides over solid production.
Gangsta rap made it to Beverly Hills, which endured one small fight that happened close to the stage, but quickly ended when Mack spoke about it while it was happened. The entire show (when it came to every artist’s set) had approximately 50 plus people on stage.
Each act had roughly 10-15 minutes to do their thing, and one of the biggest hurdles for the moderator/host, was to get artist’s crew off stage, in a timely manner. This is almost impossible like herding cats, but slowly and surely, people did eventually listen to order.
Mack appears to be back, out of his comfort zone, and ready to take on 2023 and 2024 by storm.
