ASCAP (The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers) has announced a series of weekly conversations with iconic Latin music creators in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. The first exclusive interview premieres on September 15 at 1pm ET/ 10am PT on Instagram @ASCAPLatino as part of ASCAP Experience, ASCAP’s signature event to inspire, educate and connect aspiring songwriters and composers everywhere. It features an intimate one-on-one conversation with Latin rock star Draco Rosa (“Livin’ La Vida Loca,” “The Cup of Life”) and Spanish singer-songwriter, Natalia Jiménez (“Creo en Mí,” “Quédate con Ella”).
ASCAP Latino’s full-month celebration of Hispanic heritage presents insightful conversations that explore the history behind Latin music’s diverse musical culture with a focus on the urban, tropical, pop/rock and regional Mexican genres. Viewers will hear firsthand the history behind each songwriter’s successful career and how their music has influenced and changed Hispanic heritage in the US and around the world.
The second week continues the celebration with a deep-dive conversation about the history of reggaeton and how it has become the #1 genre in the world featuring the creator of the word “reggaeton,” DJ Nelson, and renowned urban radio host, El Coyote. The coming weeks will feature interviews with Ulices Chaidez talking about regional Mexican heritage; Olga Tañón on bringing merengue and tropical rhythms to a global audience, the history of women in Latin music and more.
The ASCAP Experience takes place twice a month on Wednesdays through the end of October 2021. Songwriters, composers and music business professionals can join the ASCAP Experience community for access to singular conversations with A-list songwriters, composers and producers from Latin, pop, hip-hop, R&B, country, film/TV music and beyond, plus panels with top industry executives, song feedback, networking opportunities and more. The virtual sessions take place on a variety of platforms, including YouTube, Instagram and on the ASCAP Experience website.
