In 2009, there was no event that celebrated music specifically of film, TV, video games, commercials, documentaries and all other forms of visual media, so the Hollywood Music In Media Awards was created to fill that void. The music industry is filled with incredible musicians, composers, songwriters and other creatives who don't get half the recognition they deserve. Just creating this award platform was not enough.
It had to be credible.
The HMMA is now recognized as one of the more significant (and credible) award platforms of the industry. It did not happen overnight, and we certainly had our share of challenges, to put it mildly. However, by following strict policies, protocol, guidelines and building a sterling voting academy, a HMMA win (and even a nomination) actually means something. Winners and nominees are certainly noteworthy, but that is not the most important aspect of the live show. The most crucial ingredient of our main event is really quite simple.
How people feel.
As founder, I am humbled by the amount of praise and positive feedback from attendees who were at the November 15, 2023 main event. Many expressed their personal experience as the most fun and memorable of all the industry events they've attended. That's really saying something, and that was our goal...mission accomplished.
I wish I could take the credit, but I can't.
The HMMA team made the whole thing happen. I was quoted about this in an article about the 2023 HMMA event: “The success of the show sits squarely on the shoulders on my team. I let them do their job and I have never been told to go away by so many people in one day. They know their gig and pulled off an immaculate show. I am just the coach and my team are the stars.”
