How Important Is A Live Room In Your Recordings?
When recording basic tracks in the past, the only choice for musicians was to play together in a live room. There were no samples, no digital plug-ins and the only way to collect ambiance was to record the room right along with the sound from the instrument. Today, samples of room acoustics can be used to create a “synthesized” approximation of the real thing. Choose where you record accordingly based on your needs and your budget. Don’t spend money on a large tracking studio just to record your Thriller like keys, while at the same time decide if authentic room ambiance is needed for that guitar solo. Will a synthetic duplication — which will be much cheaper, but less fun — give satisfaction?
