Grammy Museum and Music Institute Sponsor LA Schools
Musicians Institute (MI) and the Grammy Museum are sponsoring a series of hands-on interactive classes specially designed for Los Angeles Unified School District’s high school, middle school and elementary school students. The classes are taught by MI instructors and held onsite at the Grammy Museum’s state of the art performance venue. The contemporary music education-oriented courses will run through May 2010 and cover such diverse topics as Aural History of the Blues, Experimental Sound Design, Music Business Strategies, Drum Looping with Ableton Live and more. The Mixing, Producing and Sampling course, taught by MI instructor and highly successful producer Darryl Swann, was the first class offered in the MI/Grammy Museum program series in early December. Over 200 very enthusiastic students were able to participate by creating brand new beats together from vinyl disks, student rapping, and beat-boxing—all masterfully mixed by Swann, whose credits include Mos Def, Black Eyed Peas and Macy Gray.
