Ask the RIGHT people for advice
What do others tell you about your career? Avoid nay-saying friends, over-expectant parents or controllers, especially those who are unhappy with their own choices who will attempt to undermine you. Instead, find professionals in the business whose opinion you can trust. Pay for a consultation if necessary. Seek out active counsel; ask successful industry professionals for their honest evaluations –– and do not be such a fool as to let your ego get in the way of actively listening to their answers.
