Most home studios

Most home studios are situated in small, makeshift spaces and home recordists have had to be resourceful to get the sound they want.  Hanging heavy quilts and blankets on the walls is a cheap method of minimizing the sound reflection problems that persist in small rooms; also, if built from scratch, walls constructed at different angles and using different surfaces such as drywall from the top to half-way down and then extending heavy cedar paneling to the floor, can help. Placing bookshelves full of books and magazines in the room will also deflect sound in different directions. For another simple solution, a bookshelf at an angle in the corner can diffuse sound.
