If you are going to count on press
If you are going to count on press, radio and the occasional TV spot to promote your show, most of those outlets will need to know about your confirmed shows well in advance. Media prefer eight weeks of lead-time. If you’re planning on editing some B-roll to send to TV news stations or putting together a full press package for the first time, give them three to six months advanced planning. Do not tell media outlets about tentative shows or shows you hope to have booked. To promote something that doesn’t happen is embarrassing for everyone concerned.
