Shakira visits Leticia, Colombia
Colombian artist Shakira visited Leticia, Colombia to help lead the national events designed to pressure guerillas in the countryside to release hostages held in remote parts of the country. Shakira made remarks and then sang the national anthem of Colombia alongside Presidents Uribe of Colombia, Lula of Brazil and García of Peru. After a meeting with the three presidents about the security situation in the region, the presidents and Shakira travelled to the stadium of Leticia where, in front of approximately 20,000 people, they kicked off the commencement of the concerts being held throughout Colombia. Shakira performed with talented and well-known Colombian artist, Carlos Vives. Shakira plans to continue to work closely with President Uribe and leaders in the region to advocate for a peaceful end to the decades-long conflict. diana@dbaronmedia.com
